Stockholm Toy museum
The amazing collection housed at the Stockholm Toy Museum is actually the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. It is privately owned by the von Schinkel family, who have been collecting toys and comics for two generations, for over 60 years. As the von Schinkel family lives at Tidö Castle outside Västerås, the castle premises were initially a natural place to display the collection. On June 17, 1974, the doors to Tidö Toy Museum opened, inaugurated by King Carl XVI Gustaf himself.Access preferences
- Parking options (Parking)
The best parking is outside Moderna Museet, on the other side of the island, or outside Östasiatiska Museet, which is “above” the museum. From there, the shortest way to us is via a staircase.
- Possiblity to touch the toys (Tactile Experiences)
For people with visual impairments, there are some places where you can touch toys, but most of our exhibits are behind glass for safety reasons.
- Wheelchair accessible (Accessibility)
The entire Stockholm Toy Museum is located on one level, without stairs or high thresholds. It is therefore possible to walk around the museum with a wheelchair, stroller or walker. However, there is gravel outside our entrance, and if you need help getting in, you are welcome to call us. We also have a wheelchair at the entrance to borrow if needed.
