Kulturhistorisk museum / Museum of Cultural History
The Museum of Cultural History is part of the University of Oslo. We have two museum buildings – the Historical Museum in central Oslo and the new Museum of the Viking Age, which opens in 2027 in the beautiful area of Bygdøy. The Museum's extensive expertise in cultural history makes us the leading research museum in Norway. We also have Norway's largest archaeological and ethnographic collections – from the Stone Age, the Viking Age, the Middle Ages and up to recent times.Access preferences

Accessible toilets are located on the first, second and third floors.

There is only a wire loop in the lecture hall at the third floor.
- Parking options (Parking)
They have two parking spaces for visitors with disabilities. These are located on the backside of the museum building. The parking area is closed by a barrier. You can call them on number listed and they will open the barrier for you. Access the parking area from Kristian Augusts gate, exit the parking area from Kristian IVs gate. They have no ordinary parking spaces for the public.

Photography and filming for private use are allowed, but the use of flash is prohibited.
Tripods, selfie sticks, photo lamps, and similar equipment may only be used by prior arrangement made before your visit- Public transport (Getting there)
The museum is located a few minutes walk from the National Theatre, where one of Oslo's public transportation hubs is located. Local buses, trams, metro and trains correspond at this stop called "Nationaltheatret".
The tram stop "Tullinløkka" is located right behind the museum building.- Wheelchair accessible (Accessible entrance for pushchairs and wheelchairs)
The entrance with a lift is located at the back of the museum, towards Kristian IVs gate and Tullinløkka. To use this lift into the building and between floors, you must have assistance from the museum staff.
You can call them on number listed to get access to the lift. There is a lift connection between the first, second and third floors. On these three floors you will find exhibition rooms, the museum shop and toilets. There are employees on each floor who can assist with access to the lift. Unfortunately, there is no lift connection from the third to the fourth floor.
