Göteborgs naturhistoriska museum / Gothenburg Museum of Natural History

Gothenburg Natural History Museum is Gothenburg’s oldest museum. It was established in 1833, when it was based on the collections of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg. The museum moved from the East India building to a new, purpose-built location in Slottsskogen in 1923, where it was extended in 1981. The museum has a collection of about 10 million animals and the permanent exhibition shows a wide selection of the Earth’s fauna, from single-celled amoeba to the proud African elephant in display in the centre of the mammal room.
