Intro

This is our new blog feature, called Focus On. Every Focus On article will give an overview of the best museums in the second largest city in each country.
Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden with over 600 000 inhabitants. This means that there are quite a lot of museums to visit for people with of different interests. There are Art museums, Natural and science museums, Vehicle museums and much more!

Art Museums

Another option for art lovers is the Gothenburg Museum of Art. Gothenburg Museum of Art is located in the center of Gothenburg at the end of Avenyn and is the third largest art museum in Sweden. One hour outside of Gothenburg, on the island of Tjörn, is the beautiful Nordic Watercolour Museum which can be seen on the last picture. The museum has a focus on paintings in watercolor, both contemporary and historical.

Natural history and science museums

For those who are interested in natural history and science, both the Gothenburg Museum of Natural History and the Universeum, are good choices. Gothenburg Museum of Natural History is more focused on the history of animals and fossils, featuring stuffed animals. The grand finale is a copy of a blue whale, true to size. Meanwhile Universeum is more focused on natural science but also has a rainforest filled with tropical animals.

Vehicle museums

For those who are more interested in maritime, then maybe, Maritiman or Götheborg of Sweden are two museums which should be visited. If the one would rather learn about the aspects of building a boat and even trying a boat simulator then the Maritime Museum Gothenburg needs to be visited. The museum named museum of year by the Swedish Museum Association.
If that doesn't float your boat then maybe Aeroseum is something more fitting. It's the aeronautical museum and is located in an old military bunker and contains Swedish jetfighters and helicopters.

History museums

A great visit if you are in Gothenburg is the Museum of Gothenburg. The museum permanent exhibitions are about the history of the western region of Sweden as well as the history about Gothenburg itself.

Other museums

If you are more interested in interior design, the The Röhsska Museum, might be the museum for you, located close to Gothenburg museum of art. The museum collects historic and contemporary design and craft to focus and deepen the relevance of the history of design.
The Museum of World Culture is another interesting museum with the aim of the Museum of World Culture is to function as a platform for dialogues and reflections, where many different voices can be heard and controversial and contentious topics discussed
